Tractor Trailer Mechanic Inspector

What work will I perform at Landstar?
The ideal candidate for the Tractor Trailer Mechanic Inspector has been a tractor trailer mechanic for at least 7 years and is looking for a change of pace. In this newly created role, you will work independently to perform DOT inspections on Landstar's fleet of trailer equipment, communicating inspection results in a timely and professional manner.
The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm during which you will be expected to complete 8 DOT compliance inspections each day. Your attention to detail will ensure that trailers that pass the inspection have the appropriate documentation completed properly. Your coordination and follow-up skills will be used for any trailers that fail inspection as you will document the needed corrective actions and interface with our third-party maintenance team to schedule the fixes. You will reinspect the trailers upon completion of the repairs.
Essential Responsiblities:
- Perform thorough and comprehensive DOT inspections of Landstar equipment
- Coordinate with external vendors to ensure DOT compliance
- Track all inspection statuses
- Monitor and manage on-site tire inventory
- Compliance with Parts 396.19 (Annual Inspections) and 396.25 (Brake Inspections) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Seven years tracter trailer mechanic experience
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Five years tractor trailer inspection experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically (email) in an effective and professional manner
- Ability to prioritize, and work with minimal supervision
