YMCA Buffalo Niagara operates Outdoor Adventure Day Camps.  Camp activities include swimming, nature study, hiking, archery, gaga pit games, arts & crafts, and more.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pool Director plans and implements aquatic programming for the summer day camp program. Ensures the safety of campers and staff. Maintains the pool facilities, locker rooms, and the surrounding area.  Supervises lifeguards and swim instructors. This is a summer seasonal position.

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Camp employees are scheduled to work Monday – Friday, up to 40 hours per week.  Must be available to work between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops and implements a safe and skill-oriented YMCA swimming instruction program.
  2. Maintains YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s aquatic program standards and ensures compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations. Ensures chlorine levels are adequate and maintains records and reports as required.
  3. Coordinates, schedules, and trains aquatic staff and camp counselors as needed to carry out the program design.
  4. Provides daily oversight and leadership of pool operations. Identifies and resolves problems. Implements appropriate discipline techniques and enforces policies and procedures.
  5. Ensures effective communication with staff and parents of campers.
  6. Develops and maintains positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
  7. Performs administrative functions including attendance, swimming progress reports, and program evaluation.
  8. Maintains the safety of the pool environment, lockers/bath house, and the surrounding area. Enforces pool rules. Implements emergency procedures when necessary.
  9. Follows and enforces department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Enforces PPE compliance.
  10. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas.
  11. Completes additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have at least one year of experience in swim instruction and supervision of aquatics staff.
  2. Strong leadership and communication skills.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Must have and maintain:
    1. YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
    2. CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED (American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Health & Safety Institute)
    3. Oxygen Administration and First Aid certification (American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Health & Safety Institute).
